hi all,

i am looking at BCD Software's WebSmart system to aid in development of web based applications for our iSeries.

does anybody out there have any experience with the product?

if so, good, bad, neutral?

does it really speed up the development process for applications?

is it as easy to use as the video demo's make it appear?

thanks.

Sarge, they were just acquired by another company, so I don't know where its going.

Of the available products out there for Web-izing apps, I like BCD stuff best, followed by ProFound Logic's.

At my last company, we had BCD Progen Plus for many years, and it was a huge productivity boost for green-screen programming.  I would contend that their tech support is second to none... very helpful.

I looked at Websmart and demo'd it and yes it was quick to make browser-based programs.  I believe you'll need to choose between Websmart ILE and Websmart PHP which you can also deploy on other platforms if you want.

But you don't have to take the video demo's word for it since I think they'll let you try it for a period of time for free.

php is the way for us. we design for the iPad, Android and other smart(er than me) devices, these days.

of course we have to use jason, jquery, html, css, php all as separate development steps.

it appears that the WebSmart PHP will do all of that, allow our green screeners to remain very productive and allow use of other platforms such as linux, smart devices, etc.

gotta go play army for a week, but will start the demo sometime late next week when i return.

thanks.
