I'm no systems admin, so I need some help.
I have a new Power i model 720 with v7r1.
The previous SysAdmin started an install and stopped halfway through.
I'm wondering how I can restart a scratch install. This system has only the little green LED no LCD readout so I don't know how to switch the IPL mode or anything like that. He also didn't get far enough to permit the 5250 session or OpsNav to connect (NO HMC)
FYI, he passed away the weekend following his attempt to install this, hence the situation.
I am not sure on a 720, but I know many of the M25, E4a's etc. is there a little tab that sticks out close to the green LED? If so, you press that, and the display panel then will "pop" out and you can then go and change the IPL mode, etc.
Found it. Thanks!
I've IPL'd the box, but now the Operations Console says "Connecting..."
The front panel has the following code:
B2004158 LP=00001
Any ideas what to do next? (Call IBM?)
Was the Ops Console working before you started?
Was the Ops Console upgraded to 7.1? They should be inter-release compatible, but when I went to 6.1, upgrade instructions were pretty insistent that you upgraded the Ops Console client before starting. Wouldn't be surprised if 7.1 OS also wanted console software at 7.1.
There is a way to reset the Ops Console port on the server, using control panel functions (don't remember details offhand). That would allow you to renegotiate the Ops Console connection, though you should probably try other things first.
Yes, I updated it to v7.1 and applied the current PTFs to the Client Access package.
Then I re-IPL'd using the settings Bruce Hoffman suggested, then nothing.
Then I re-IPL'd "normally" and hit "Discover" and it popped up.
It would NOT take QSECOFR (I think the prior person changed its pwd) so I used the little known 11111111 user ID and password and it came right up.
