What's the best way to update a multi-format LF?   

I am reading the LF and checking to see what rcdfmt I just read, but when I update that rcdfmt, I get the prev/read or chain required message RNX1221.  Should I CHAIN to the PF after reading the multi-format LF and then update the PF?

Yes. I believe multi-format LFs are read-only by nature.
