A customer of mine has been using an e-mail API belonging to their ERP software for about 10 years. It has been working nicely so far but now that we for the first time attempt to use its capability for e-mail attachments, it appears not to handle attachments very well. As the ERP software supplier is out of business and no documentation for the e-mail API available the thought of changing over to the latest on e-mail has come up.
So, here are my questions:
- what's the latest standard on e-mailing from the IBM i?
- where do I find documentation, programming examples etc?
Thanks in advance!

Paul, all COZTOOLS clients can ask for and receive our implementation of the Java SendMail client for IBM i.
I just installed it at a new client who was using GMAIL and modified it to work with it. But normally it "just works".
There are several variations of this out there, Aarons is one of those implementations.
Another option might be MMAIL ( http://mmail.easy400.net/ ) According to Giovanni, it is a world-wide known free open-source utility for sending and receiving e-mail messages from / to your IBM i applications.
Since June 2013 MMAIL supports also sending SMS messages from your IBM i applications, see page http://mmail.easy400.net/mmail/html/emlsms.htm .
Not sure how it compares to Aaron's RPGMail and Bob's SendMail...(?)
We use MMAIL. No problems, we are happy with it.

If you already have SEQUEL from Help Systems installed, they have built-in email capabilities and extended features with their ESEND module. Also includes sending via FTP, and many attachment formats (XLS, PDF, CSV, HTML, etc.).
Thanks folks! I'll check out the provided info. Have a good summer!
I use mailtool and mailtool+ from www.bvstools.com
I use it to send attachments, etc. and it works very well. Mailtool+ allows me to bypass using the ibm smtp server.

We have Gumbo Mail and it's inexpensive and seems to work well for our purposes.
