External LTO Tape Drive and Card? Published by: Bob Cozzi on 21 May 2012 view comments(3)

I have a bunch of model 520 systems out there at v5.4

They all have SLR60 tape drives. But some of those drives are failing.

I'm wondering if I could buy external LTO 4 tape drives and connect them to these boxes of if I'd also need to get some kind of controller card and install that too?

I'm not a hardware guy so that's why I don't have a clue about this stuff.

You should be able to use at least LTO 3; not sure about 4. Yes, you'll need a controller card.
