Is anyone still using the TAA TOOLS package from Jim Sloan, Inc? If so, for what purpose?
I've been looking into it at a client but it looks like a new license ranges from $2000 to more than $5500. It also looks like upgrades are how they do their SWMA equivalent... which seems to run a few hundred bucks per release.
Hi Bob,
Nope, and haven't for many years. In the old days (15-20 years ago) there were a lot of goodies to be found there. TAATOOLS was really good stuff for that time! But most of the advantages disappeared over time as OS400 developed and we wrote our own routines.
What can I say on the pricing... :o(
Happy rpg-ing,
Paulster
Nope. Like Paulster says, most of the tools are now just part of the OS.
We have it. I think we mostly use it for the ROLLDICE command to help us decide who gets to pick where we go to lunch...
I have no idea if we pay for it. When I was still a rookie I used to use it - now I write my own tools when I see a need. My tools are covered by my own disclaimer - I will fix any shortcomings while I am paid to work for you. And they can be individually tailored for site specific quirks.
We do actually use some of the tools in our programs here and there. Before writing something ourselves, we do check there to see if it already exists in TAA Tools and quite often it does.
A couple years ago I remember contacting Jim Sloan and asking for something to be added to one of the commands and they added it and had it back to us within a couple days.
We pay a little bit in annual maintenance, but we've had it forever so I don't know what it would cost to buy new.
