All,
I have an IBM iSeries 270 and am trying to get a tape drive configured but not having any success. Every tape drive I have installed has failed which I thought to be quite strange. At this point, I have replaced the 2748 IOP RAID5 card and cable that manages the base DASD, OPT01 and TAP01. When a tape drive did appear in the system hardware it would fail upon varying on or attempting to read a tape. Currently, with AUTOCFG set to *ON, the drive no longer appears on the SST and if I create a drive device the system tells me resource name TAP01 is not found. The drive did appear after the new card was installed, but since it failed it no longer appears.
There must be a way to get a tape drive configured. I've tried a 60G and a 50G drive to no avail and have replaced the IOP card. I understand that one 2748 card can handle up to 15 drives or other devices via its 3 I/O buses. My unit has 2 cards so maybe something is not just right. One card handles the 6 base drives and the other handles the 6 addt'l drive in the expansion cabinet.
If anyone can offer some help I would be grateful.
Thanks
George
