We are currently on V5R4 and there is a limitation of 65535 for an alpha field definition.

I am doing XML and of course ran out of room. It is a good thing because it is pushing the company to move to a newer OS release. From what I read the definition will go to 16,773,104.

My question is will there be any limits in the iSockets we currently are using?

I doubt there would be a size limit in iSockets. I'd have to go revisit the internals, but generally speaking, I use the C runtime functions in RPG to do things like move and copy data. Those function have the 16MB barrier all the way back to v3r2 or even earlier. So most likely you won't see any issues with sizes.
